Ty wasn’t always set on his six original teddy colors- teal, magenta, violet, jade, brown, and cranberry. We have long seen Ty use a variety of his original fabric colors in his prototypes. It was believed this was also the case for his original teddies. Proof of this was first most prominently confirmed when Ty displayed six old face teddies at one of his Tyriffic Stores in unproduced colors : old face red, old face orange, old face tie-dyed (garcia colors), old face black, old face light pink, old face lavender (picture below). In this set we have that very Tyriffic Old Face RED teddy (hence no pax tags).
An old face white teddy with magenta patch surfaced during protogate in 2003/2004. It was at this point that we wondered if Ty created sets of alternate colored pieces for a respective pair of old face and new face teddies. With the help of a very senior ty employee, sets of these original teddies were assembled. The search took many years. These bears were spread far and wide among respective senior ty employees past and present. Not all colors have yet been uncovered, and not all colors saw entire sets assembled. But a “set” includes an old face white teddy with color patch, followed by an old face teddy in that respective color. Followed by a new face white teddy with ribbon and patch, and a new face example in that respective color with ribbon.
Rarity Rank: 0. All four of these pieces are easy rank 0 pieces. Full departures for original 1st and 2nd generation styles. There is an argument that these could be kicked up to a higher rarity class given they are full color alternates for the original teddy bears of the beanie collection, which are among the most collected and coveted even today. The old face bears will all have 1992 pax hang tag dates, and the new face bears will have 1993 pax dates – so their age and notoriety are beyond reproach. An entire assembled set adds an additional WOW factor, on top of everything.
