Hah! This is a really fun Inky prototype showcasing Ty’s transition from its original gray (tan) color, to the eventual pink body. Tan Inky was originally released with the original Mid-1994 1st generation released pieces (without a mouth- June 25th, 1994). Ty added a mouth to this guy on September 12th, 1994, and then a little less than a year later (June, 3, 1995) released the pink-body variety. Interestingly, this prototype has a pax date of 1.18.94 – this actually predates the original Tan Inky no mouth release! Though typically Ty has finalized his eventual release style 6-12 months before a style’s release. So this piece indicates Ty very much had planned (or at least toyed with the idea) to add a mouth and shift Inky’s coloring to light pink! Extremely fascinating true original prototype Inky!
Rarity Rank: 1.75 – This is a strong departure for the 2nd/3rd generation Inky the Tan/Pink Octopus! Also a rare instance of Ty’s color fabric transition caught in one place.
