Derby the Horse Fine Mane PROTOTYPE Red and Brown

The fine mane Derby is, generally, one of the most underrated production rare styles. Locating a MQ example will still take $400-$500. The piece was only made for a short while with a 3rd generation hang tag. Finding a Korean or German example is another challenge altogether holy grails in the hobby. A tier past this, you have the fabled “red mane” fine mane derby examples. The yarn on these are a lighter shade (think honey brown) from the normally seen darker brown yarn seen. Only a few examples of the “red mane” derbys have surfaced.

Now, behold the only known prototype for the Fine Mane Derby – its ears, hooves, and nostrils are bright red (pinchers fabric). Also, its fine mane is red, and looped! Most mane pieces (lefty, derby) had looped yarn before they were cut apart before shipment. A few oddities of production examples made it out with looped yarn intact.

Rarity Rank: 0 – This prototype is such a spectacular piece – an original 3rd generation prototype from early 1994 of one of the rarest production styles. The departure is vivid – showcasing a fully uncut looped mane, and the departure color falls to the deepest corner of the “red” spectrum that surroundings this pieces’ yarn coloring. Stupendous piece!
