Here we have a very neat prototype for Spangle the bear! While not the rarest or oldest piece, this bear had many variations. This prototype is complete with pax tush tag and hang tag (1998 pax tag dates). What makes this piece so interesting is the tri-color facial variations. We know Ty ended up releasing this piece with three alternate face colors (white, light red, and light blue). Interesting to see this may have been his plan all along. This resonates with the calculated decisions Ty often veiled as “mistakes” or “changes” on account of poor reception, or a capricious creator. Rarity Rank: 2.75. Spangle was released in 1999 – making him one of the newer prototypes reviewed so far. But he was a very memorable piece. This is a strong and intriguing departure for what we would call a newer vintage piece in the beanie line.
