This is a very special piece indeed. The Ty #1 rep bear, discussed in several previous posts, is still to this day one of the most coveted production pieces in the hobby. With only 253 examples, and most buried in the oldest most vast collections, finding a MQ example will still take many thousands of dollars. To many, this piece is the pinnacle teddy bear in the hobby. This is a stunning prototype example with white ears, padded white feet, white ribbon, and white nose! The piece is complete with pax hang and tush tags. The pax hang tag is signed by Ty in red! August 1998 pax dates put this piece at about 4 months prior to the piece’s production release and distribution to Ty reps. Fun fact, this piece resides in the personal collection of this author. It was always a goal to secure the rarest Beanie Baby teddy prototype and the rarest Attic Treasure teddy prototype. See below – this piece seated next to one of the four created infamous Woolie Brown attic treasures – that line’s rarest teddy.
Rarity Rank: -1. A fine candidate for the elusive -1 club. While biased for this particular piece, an incredible departure for the #1 Rep Bear with all the fixings one might dream. An elevated departure that immediately screams prototype, without losing the original character design of the piece.
