Three “complete” original 9 sets have been assembled/documented to this point (early 2025). This article is to put all in one post the pieces of “The Executive Set” and to summarize the other two ‘complete’ sets. These pieces based on their provenance, story, and current whereabouts have fallen into category sets. The three known “complete” sets are:
The Faith set: https://rarestbeans.com/2024/10/17/original-9-tyriffic-prototype-set-of-9-the-faith-set/ This set was specifically used to display at the Tyriffic Store. These pieces ended up back with Faith (Ty Warner’s ex fiancée) after they had finished their display time at the store. All pax tags removed (Tyriffic signature), with designs chosen that still could easily be identified as the eventual production design/displayed as a clear ‘original 9’ beanie set, but with enough departure to make each piece/the set ‘pop’/scream prototype. This set includes 9 pieces.
The design set: https://rarestbeans.com/2024/12/20/original-9-prototype-set-design-set/ This set is a set we believe might have been considered for Tyriffic display at the time they selected the Faith set. Pieces have all pax tags, and are strong departures from production designs, but still share enough similarities with production to clearly display/present as original 9 pieces. This set includes 10 pieces – two Spot prototypes – inverse black and white, and the brown and white examples.
The Executive set: This set was reviewed individually over a series of posts on our blog. The pieces in this set represent stronger departures for original 9 pieces and came from various senior executives over the years. These, generally, have the oldest pax hang tag dates on record and are (among) the strongest departures documented for their respective styles. IE, full color departures, etc. Some verified as original 9 pieces only via original confirmation from ty executive provenance, and the pax tag clues – dates and lettering. Pictured below. This set is accepted and now known to include 11 pieces. Two patti protos – chocolate brown and solid red, and two spot no spot protos – green and gray, and tie-dyed and orange.
Note, there are incredible original 9 protos not in these three sets that are just as impressive. They are just either in different type sets, or on their own as crown jewels of their respective collections.
