Tyriffic beanies – very special prototypes Ty showcased around the country at his various pop-up stores in select airport terminals, are among the most coveted in the hobby. They were the examples Ty specifically selected to better showcase a bit under the beanie hood – let collectors into his design thinking. There are so very few that have made it out from Ty to collectors’ hands. Tyriffic prototypes can be deemed/graded as such if proper provenance is supplied to the authenticator, but the best examples have existing photograph proof – either from the stores themselves, or from the very few sanctioned articles published over the years showcasing them. One of the most famous articles (pictured below) has been discussed in previous posts – it showcases many exquisite and famous pieces, including the Tyriffic Nanas.
On the cover of this article (and reviewed further within) is the Tyriffic copper Speedy (https://rarestbeans.com/2022/08/26/tyriffic-copper-speedy-prototype-turtle/) and the two pieces we are specifically reviewing in this post – the lilac and white Bessie the cow and the solid white Pugsly the dog. Pugsly is a a full solid white, with slightly differing design from final production, and Bessie has wild color departures in white and lilac, with magic the dragon winged fabric for her horns.
Rarity Rank: 1. Full/wild departures from final production designs for 3rd and 4th generation pieces – Bessie and Pugsly! No pax tags, but TYRIFFIC pieces, confirmed with original publication. Always such a rare treat reviewing the more famous Tyriffic prototype pieces.
